Barbie The Icon
by Dutch Fashion Doll World
This week an amazing exposition opened in the Mudec museum in Milan.
the exposition is called Barbie The Icon
The exhibition will tell the story of the incredible life of a doll that has interpreted the aesthetic and cultural transformations of society for more than half a century; but – unlike the other myths of contemporaneity, worn out by the passing of time – this doll has had the privilege of being timeless and has crossed distant eras and lands, representing some 50 different nationalities, and bolstering her identity as a mirror for the global imagination.
The exhibition will comprise 5 sections and be preceded by an introductory room called Who is Barbie?, which will contain 7 iconic as well as representative pieces for each decade from 1959 to the present time, in addition to a timeline, fun facts, numbers and the global making of Barbie so that visitors will instantly know just who Barbie is.
The Designers Mario and Gianni were consultants for this amazing exposition and the created a very special doll for this exposition in a limited edition of 10.
Barbie Mudec is intended as true tribute to the museum concept. In fact, we restyled and designed completely the satin fabric, printed with the museum logo , emphatizing the multicultural expect with the edgy hairstyle inspired by African mood.Fully lined and handembroidered with sequins, beads and real Swarovski crystals, along with custom handmade accessories and jewels. This doll was produced by Magia2000 in collabroation and authorization of Mattel Italy, with special head painting and hairstyle directly provided by Mattel USA, with special supervision of principal designer Bill Greening.
For this exposition Magia2000 also released a special hard cover edition of their book “Dreaming of Dolls”. For this edition they added new pictures from their latest collections and collaborations. It’s called the Gold Editions.
