Classic Black Dress Silkstone
by Dutch Fashion Doll World
Today she arrived, the new Silkstone dol called Classic Black Dress.
Love the new box design with the roses.
And here she is.
Her face is gorgeous.
Love her soft glossy lips and the classic ponytail. My first impression is that she looks very young. Is it her face, or is it the new articulated body. I’m not a deboxer with my Silkstone dolls. But this girl (not a lady) has to come out.
The first thing I see when I start to debox her is that they used a black ribbon.
And we all know that black can give staining on our dollls…
Her articulation is quite firm. So when you pose her she keeps this pose very good. But there are some things that I’m not so happy with.
The seams are very rough. For some reason they didn’t sand them. I also think that the articulation at her elbows is not the most beautiful there is. I really don’t like the little pointy thing that is showing when you place her hands on her hips. And talking about placing her hand on her hips. The iconic Silkstone pose that I LOVE isn’t possible.
Lets compare her to one of the older ladies.
She is a bit taller and her waist point is higher.
She has a smaller bosom. This new body gives her a younger look.
Older fashions from the BFMC do fit.
But the bigger bosom looks better in my opinion.
So am I happy with this new doll.
I loved the idea of an articulated Silkstone doll. For me it will be a reason to start de-boxing the dolls and have fun with them. I love her face. But this new body has still to many flaws. The new body is also to different from the old one and instead of a new Lady I now have a new friend for Francie.
And then the fashion. A little black dress and plastic boots that were hell to take of. At one point I was afraid that I would break her legs. This is the most basic Silkstone we ever had. This has nothing to do with the glamour and couture from the 50ties
3,5 years ago I fell in love with this atelier collection.
These amazing ladies dressed in couture made me want to be a doll collector. And I don’t think this new girl would have had the same effect on me.
It look like this doll is inspired by a modern day look that we see in fashion street photography. But don’t forget that these ladies that are running in their little black dresses from show to show always combine their outfits with the best accessories.
In an interview with Robert Best that you can read on the Barbie Collection website he explain that one of the reasons that they changed the body is because collectors were asking for posable Silkstone dolls from the beginning.
I’m not a collector from the beginning but when I read the boards people are asking for fashions sets, accessories ,furniture pieces and gift boxes. I hope we will also see some of these things in the near future.
So will this be the end of my passion for the Silkstone collection. No of course not. I think this is going to be an exciting new direction. And I hope we will see some of the vintage glamour back in these new dolls. And if not then I have an amazing collection of dolls from previous years that I can enjoy and I can focus more on the very talented ooak artists that we have in this doll world.
Normally I would say for more information http://www.thebarbiecollection.com
But until now you can’t find anything about this new girl at their website. I hope she will get a proper introduction soon.
