At the Paris doll convention I met Monica Nunez del Castillo. She is a Barbie collector from Spain and told me that she was organizing a doll convention in Madrid. I was great meeting her and I know that the convention will be a great success. yesterday she announced the first information about the convention on Facebook. So I emailed her if I could do a small interview with her about this event.

The convention will take place in Madrid on 13 14 and 15 of September. So a great excuse to visit the amazing city.

-When did the idea started that Madrid needed their own doll convention:
My friend Ana Maria Rivera did the first Barbie events in Spain from 1999 to 2006, she even had hand-made convention dolls for these events, for different circumstances she could not go on with the organization of these events and nobody took her place.
I would have loved to do it that time but was not prepared. Now after having attending to more Barbie events like the 2009 50th Barbie anniversary convention I feel prepared to offer something good to the Spanish collectors, something even international.
-Who are the people behind this event:
All the people involved are Barbie collectors with a great passion for Fashion dolls in general. Some members of the team has been my Barbie friends for years and others I just met because of Jose Luis Montesdeoca “Barbie viajera” (traveller Barbie), this Barbie goes from town to town joining collectors.
In my team are: Paco Alcaide he is a teacher in Design, he designed our convention Barbie doll for this year.
Luis Manuel Gomez Pulido (Lewis) he is our Couture Master, he will sew our doll outfit.
Jose Rodriguez (Ken Mad) is my dear friend always helping and supporting me, and he takes the Best photographs of Barbie Scenes ever.
Nuria Santiago Valderrama is our official club secretary and we can not live without her.
Diana Blázquez is our traveller and Hotel assistant, she has helped us to get a great place for our convention.
Lidia Villamil is our youngest member and she is a very talented girl and in charge of the decorations.
And Ana Maria Rivera the person who started everything many years ago and help us with everything she can do although she is living far away in Puerto Rico.
And there are many more people supporting and helping with this Barbie event with work and donations.
-Does the convention has a theme and why did you choose this theme:
The theme for this convention is “Cinema”. This theme was chosen among other themes like “Music”, “Cabaret”, “Burlesque”,”Designers” by collectors of the club. We did a poll.
-What can people expect when they go to this event and Is there already an official program:
There is a great program with many activities and contests we will post it as soon as possible.
-Can you describe the Spanish doll community:
The Spanish doll community is like any other community but less active than abroad talking about doll events. Many of my friends has been collecting dolls for many years, what I could tell from my experience is how collecting evolves through a life of collecting and how people share knowledge and the love for Fashion dolls like Barbie.
-Is there going to be a convention doll:

Yes indeed, we are trying to get a Mattel convention doll but in case this can not be possible we have a plan B. We have designed a fantastic doll that will delight our conventioneers
-How many tickets are there available for the main event(s):

the event will be limited to 65-70 spots maximum. We choose a well communicated but small place for this first event we want to go step by step and doing things right.
